Latin American Radiological Protection Day

Posted on: 2022-04-14

On April 15th, Latin American Radiological Protection Day is celebrated throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. The commemoration has been held since 1996, when the Argentine physician and physicist, Dr. Dan Jacobo Beninson, radiological safety expert, received the Sievert Award.

Radiological Protection is a set of measures stipulated to protect patients and health professionals who come into contact with ionizing radiation, during exams and in their services. Among them are minimizing the time the individual is exposed, increasing the distance between the emitting source and the individual, correct shielding, reducing doses, among others.

The Latin Safe initiative, whose main objective is to promote and disseminate these Radiological Protection measures in Latin America, celebrates this day with great happiness and thanks the professionals involved in the cause. We invite you, radiologist or physicist, to also get involved in the cause!
