Dosimetric quantities and effective dose in medical imaging

Posted on: 2021-08-19

A summary article on dosimetric quantities and effective dose in medical imaging was published in the Springer Open.

The focus is to present basic information about the dosimetric quantities used in medical imaging for reporting patient doses and establishing diagnostic reference levels.

The content also brings the proper use of the amount of radiological protection, “effective dose”, to compare the doses administered by different radiological procedures and imaging modalities with their uncertainties and limitations. All this based on estimates of population doses required by the European Basic Safety Standards Directive.
